A good wedding photographer will produce stunning images of your special day, whether capturing small details or vivid emotions. At Sterling Photography International, we strive to bring to life the emotions of joy, beauty and romance. One way we can highlight emotion is by editing photos in black and white.
Black and white photos to enhance emotion
Weddings are vibrant, colorful affairs made up of many tiny details that have been well thought-out. Of course you’ll want to capture the vibrancy of those details in vivid colors. But, for capturing emotion, black and white can create significant drama. By simplifying the image to only two colors, we are able to tune in to the fine details of a photo as we are giving our eyes less to focus on. Instead of being pulled in many directions, scanning a multitude of colors, the eye is free to focus on detailed features. Black and white also lends itself to creating a strong sense of mood – it’s easy to tell if the subject of the photograph is happy, tense, nervous or relaxed. Black and white photos are often the most stunning because of the clear display of emotion.
Black and white photos to cover imperfections
Another advantage to black and white wedding photography is the ability to hide, or at least minimize, perceived imperfections. Even the most self-confident among us probably sees one or two physical imperfections when looking in the mirror. Perhaps it’s minor blemishes, or an uneven skin tone. Editing a photo from color to black and white is a classy, simple way to smooth over imperfections without taking dramatic measures, such as airbrushing. If you end up with a photo you love, but you can’t quite get past a minor imperfection, consider asking your photographer to edit the photo in black and white tones.
