Here at Sterling Photography, in 25 years of experience, we have developed a certain technique that we like to call “stress-free.” We think wedding photography should not only be fun, but also help reduce your stress on your big day! Does that seem impossible? Read on, and we will bring you 5 tips that will keep you and your wedding photographer stress-free.
By association with the calming effect, you will enjoy your photos for generations. Stress-reducing your photography actually begins while you are planning your wedding.
Stress-free Tip l. WDZT Schedule
Create a Wedding Day Schedule! We have discovered a curious phenomenon concerning time and the wedding day. There’s Central Standard Time, Eastern Standard Time and Pacific Time, to name a few zones. However, Sterling Photography has discovered WDZT—Wedding Day Standard Time Zone. You see, we have found out that wedding day time defies logic and physics.
On WDZT, everything takes longer than you expect—every single thing! So you must create a time schedule for the day that builds in an automatic 15-30 minutes MORE under each main category of actions you must take. For example, what if your hair and make-up require a little more attention than you anticipate?
Likewise, you must realize that even if you plan it, everything will take much longer than you expect. Honor the time allotted with your photography to be uncompromised!
Stress-free Tip Number 2: Take a “First Look” Option!
This is a special, pre-ceremony, pre-planned event just for the wedding photographer and the couple. Reserve 10-30 minutes during which the room is cleared except for the 3 of you.
You and your groom get to speak to each other, and he gets a minute to appreciate your beauty, as vice versa. Then you and pose together for a few lovely shots.
Do not worry, the moment you walk down the aisle will still have its own magic.I f you want to get in the mood for some gorgeous wedding shots of couples, take a look at this beautiful online resource.
Stress-free Tip Number 3: Facial Expression
Due to stage fright, you might be tempted to look down, bight your lip, frown or freeze your face. Nervous tension can cause a bride (or a groom) to stare at the ground as they walk down the aisle or during their vows.
Advice from the “Everafter” wedding planning guide states, “Even if you are too preoccupied with your nerves to smile, at least look up so the photographer can get the expression on your face and not just the top of your head.”
Stress-free Tip 3: Let there be light!
When you are shopping for your venue, be aware of how your lighting is set up.
Think about the time of day your wedding will be, compared to the time you viewed the venue.
Find out when sunset will be, and if you want photography involving outdoor light, consider giving the photographer time for some shots before the darkness descends.
The bottom line is that, if the room does not have adequate lighting, your photos might suffer.
Stress-Free Tip Number 4: “Don’t sweat the small stuff!”
Whoever wrote that line must have attended a few weddings!
No matter what happens; no matter how many of your carefully planned details do not work out, invest your trust in your photographer. And we implore you—if your photographer makes a suggestion or an observation about, for example, the inadvisability of backdrop covered in reflective tinfoil, by all means listen!
On the day itself, our best advice is put a bubble of serenity around yourself. With all of your loved ones surrounding you, and with Sterling Photography on your side, you can keep calm and just enjoy your wonderful day.
