The trends in wedding photography today include drone photography, film photography and editorial style photos.
Drone photography:
Let’s face it, drones are created to carry objects and that can include a camera. They can stand and hover, remain in a fixed position and track a moving subject. This now adds a whole new dimension and style to wedding photos. Still photographers and videographers are both getting in on the latest rage in drone photography. Although professional photographers point out that the shot may not be as good as the professional shots we normally do, It could capture a shot which we cannot get by standing in a specific spot on the ground. it is a unique and fun way to add a new spin to a special wedding day.
Film Photography:
Another new trend we will be seeing in the near future is an increase in the demand for film photography. This means the use of an analog camera and negative film. It may best be explained by comparing film being developed in a dark room rather than on a computer. Using film as the medium means that light, color and tones appear differently than when using digital images. Film images may appear softer and more flattering. Some clients may be looking for this style to have the images appear like a painting rather than the digital method which are crisp and vivid.
Editorial Style Shots:
The savvy brides of today may be looking for images which mimic those from a magazine. Adding that popular touch of glam may be just the ticket. With editorial style shots, the photographer is using flattering light, paying closer attention to detail. This will give the photo impact and emotion. Attention is given to expression and deliberate placement of the subjects. This style is often done in a studio setting. This type of photography may be costly since it will take more time for preparation and editing. Ask your wedding photographer if he or she offers editorial style photography.
Conclusion:
Trends come and go and as photographers we are always learning and growing. Today’s brides seem to be going for a more natural style. The “Instagram” shots with filters have given way to a softer image, using simple editing and lighting effects. Some couples are asking for the aesthetic look of yesterday with all black and white photography. The many new trends for 2016 and beyond will incorporate both old and new styles.
