What inspires you? When we are motivated by a certain topic, location or person, ideas tend to flow more freely through our heads. Maybe it’s a sleeping baby, maybe ballerinas inspire you, or an elderly couple holding hands.
But what if you are stuck in a sort of photographer’s block and the inspiration isn’t flowing so generously? Do not despair! Even professional photographers experience this from time to time.
What are you?
Whether you’re an amateur, semi-pro, hobbyist, scrapbooker, want to travel the world and document it, or you are someone who just received a camera for their birthday; find what enthuses you and snap away!
Take a Walk
If you are having difficulty connecting with your photographer’s eye, grab your camera bag, and just go outside for some fresh air.
What’s surrounding you? Look around and take it all in. Notice the trees, flowers, the houses, buildings and people. Pay close attention to what catches your eye. Take notes. If you see an interesting area, jot down why you found this place interesting, perhaps that will help garner some ideas later if not right at that moment. Maybe you can bring your child or another family member to this location, along with whatever you may need to make the shoot happen, and there you have it … your first portrait! Be sure to come back to the location when the lighting situation is ideal.
Watch a Good Movie
Films are a wonderful starting place for inspiration as it involves composition. If not a movie, turn on the television and watch something else. There is inspiration all around us. Read a story about a father’s act of selflessness and his children’s mission to give him back something he had to part with 24 years ago. Stories like these can really spur photographic ideas, or maybe make you want to hire a photographer for a family portrait. Contact us for more information.
We will be bringing you some more tips to get those creative juices flowing. Stay tuned!
