If you’ve got an engagement photo session on the horizon, you may be wondering how to dress for your photos. There are lots of factors to consider, in order to get the final results you’re looking for. Let’s discuss a few options today to help you prep for your engagement shoot.
Decide on a theme
Now, don’t let the heading scare you. You certainly don’t have to have a ‘theme’ when taking engagement photos, but if that’s your style, make sure you pick one that really makes your personality shine! Engagement photos are sometimes the first introduction wedding guests will have to you as a couple. Think about your great aunt in Minnesota or your father’s business partner. They’ll likely be invited to the wedding, but they not have had a chance to get to know your significant other, or the love story you share. Why not have a fun, lighthearted shoot that shows off your common interests? Your theme will probably dictate your clothing choices. Here are a few possibilities to get you thinking:
- Are you die-hard soccer fans? Wear your Orlando City jerseys to your shoot and take some pictures at the stadium, or bring a soccer ball the park for your photos. If possible, avoid identical jerseys, or t-shirts. Of course, you’ll be wearing the same colors because you’re supporting the same team, but aim to switch it up a little.
- Did you meet while traveling abroad? Hit the World Showcase at Epcot, pick up a few props and accessories that remind you of your travels, and have a photo shoot in one of the 11 featured countries! If you are rugged adventurers, you may want to bring your backpacks and wear your hiking sandals. If you’re more cosmopolitan, you may want to dress up as though you were going to dinner in one of the world’s finest cities.
Choose to ‘coordinate’ rather than match
Even if you choose a very specific theme, matching your partner exactly is too reminiscent of old childhood photos where your parents dressed you and your siblings in identical outfits. For a more sophisticated look, avoid matching exactly, but do make sure you coordinate your outfits. Choose complementary colors that will look great together. Make sure your shoes and accessories work well together. For example, decide to wear brown leather boots and belts so that you don’t clash with one another on picture day. For optimal results, wear solid colors or understated styles without lots of writing or busy patterns. Allow your accessories to stand out and add a little extra flair.
