When you envision the perfect engagement session, what comes to mind? Is it on a warm summer day in a garden filled with marigolds and yellow roses with your favorite summer dress on? Or do you prefer Lake Eola in Downtown Orlando at dusk with the love of your life beside you? Is there water and a lover’s embrace involved?
If you’re not exactly sure the ‘where’ in this equation, think about the time of day you would prefer first as a starting point.
Time is Ticking
The time of day you pick could give your engagement session a different feel. Picture the direction of the sun as it relates to a specific scene you have in mind. Well, time of day has everything to do with this. In outdoor photography, the sun is of course, the chief light source used.
Dusk and Dawn
Talk about remarkable light for your Central Florida engagement photographs! It’s that time just before the sun rises and just after the sun sets that can really make for some incredible images of the bride and groom. The sky is colorful and almost intriguing at dusk and dawn. The light that is produced during dusk and dawn is soft and gentle and has a directional quality with low contrast. This low contrast can make for dream-like engagement photographs.
Sunrise and Sunset
Our days start and end with the sun in a low position, which is perfect for generating compositions with sidelight; the light that comes across your scene from the side. This sidelight creates beautiful shadows and highlights that reveal texture. Keep in mind that the light at these times of the day doesn’t last very long at all, and as the sun travels up over the horizon, its effect on the scene changes considerably.
