Before your wedding day arrives, talk with your partner and give some serious thought to which photos will be most important to you. What memories do you want to be sure that you’ve got on film, and how do you want your day to be represented in the photos? Do you want your family photos and wedding party photos to be formal, or do you want them to be fun? Formal photos are timeless and classy, but consider throwing in a few fun photos to allow your personalities to shine through.
A little fun before the ceremony
If your photographer will be with you for the entire wedding day, consider asking him to take some photos of you with your bridesmaids or groomsmen in a more relaxed setting. Are all the girls getting ready together in a hotel room? Consider a photo of the bride and her bridesmaids jumping on the bed (before donning formal attire, of course!). Perhaps all the groomsmen are raising their glasses to toast the groom – maybe he’d love a picture of all of his buddies with glasses in the air.
More fun after the ceremony
Definitely get a few traditional family photos to keep and share, but don’t be afraid of getting outside of the box a little. Is your family especially close? Maybe a picture of all of you embraced in a group hug, or at least standing close with arms wrapped around one another would be a nice touch.
How about a few fun poses with the wedding party? After all, when will you both have all of your friends in the same place again? Take a cue from Brittany and Kyle, pictured above, and have all of the groomsmen support the bride, or for more laughs, have all the bridesmaids support the groom. Consider fun accessories, like small, handheld chalk boards where each member of the wedding party can write a short wish, or write a word to describe where they first met the bride or groom. Is the groom a superhero fanatic? Ask each groomsman to wear a superhero t-shirt under their tux and expose the shirts in a group photo.
