At Sterling Photography, we have noted there are many articles about wedding photography capturing the popular trends of the moment. We are aware of the “new European” photographic trend, or the “vintage style.” These are fashionable developments .
However, your personal photography has different requirements. Many photographers feel that over-laying cute styles and clever trends can interfere with capturing your true nature as a couple.
Capturing Photography: Fun or Fashion?
As a photographer of 25 years, Sterling has seen fashions come and go in clothing, art and wedding photography. Gone are the days of just lining people up and blasting them. Gone also is the repetitive use of gauzy, soft focus filters.
Such things were the high fashion of wedding photography of their day. They need to be restrained today. (You can see them in your Mother’s and Grandmother’s photograph albums.)
Capturing Breathless Moments
Telling the story of a couple, their personality and their special moments is the art of the focused photographer.
“Stop, Look and Listen” is an old slogan. But it is also a photographer’s rule. At least it is a rule at Sterling. The moment of romance, excitement, hysteria or tenderness is gone in the blink of an eye. Sometimes the next great shot is right behind the photographer. Walk away, but always look back!
The romantic session on the wedding day photography unfolds sequentially like pages of a book. Photographers who zone in on the mood of the moment can document a couple’s personality. They can also create a memory that goes far beyond ingenious fashions and copy-cat techniques.
Perhaps the modern magazine producer, wedding stylist and journalist, Grace Ormond said it best. She entitled her book , Being In Love Never Goes Out of Style. Although the book documents 21st century style and fashion in Weddings, it highlights photographers who capture photographs that are timeless and memorable.
The book celebrates the couples’ real emotions, moods and styles. In her words, “I am passionate about what I do.” … “I find fulfillment contributing to the realization of dreams, especially when those dreams manifest love between two people. Ultimately, our ability to dream is what motivates us and our ability to love is what sustains us.”
The wedding day has its fashionable sophistication and elegance. It is also full of moments of individualized fun and moments that capture the casual side of a couple.
Sterling Photography would add: Photos of having fun together also never go out of style!
We are sure you will notice Grace Ormand’s book is full of a timeless wedding photography. Her photography transcends the fashion of the moment. And the book is also full of stylish ideas to inspire you. So, that’s good.
Before you choose your wedding pho9tography, consider this. As a couple, try to expand your mind and your artistic understanding. Visit art galleries, photography books and movies. These pursuits help define our styles as individuals and human beings. By the way, check out the latest exhibits at three of Orlando’s best art galleries. Know what you like as a couple.
Capturing Your Best Inspiration: The Two of You!
Some of your best inspiration may come from casual moments of togetherness. Often such photographs will show what fun it is to be the two of you – together, living in the sheer joy of the moment. On this blog, we posted two of those moments of natural fun. They also show two different casual sides of different couples. Those moments make great memories—and great photographs.
Special Note: We at Sterling Photography would feel remiss if we did not express our sorrow for the recent tragedy in Orlando.
Our hearts go out to the victims and their families.
